Southampton, August 2007.
It all began on Burgess Road, right next to Southampton University. Back then, our main crowd was students — popping in between lectures, grabbing a bite, and spreading the word. Then came their siblings, moms, and dads. Before long, whole families and groups of friends were gathering at Diego’s, ordering for takeaway and home deliveries. We became their weekly favourite grub.
From the start, Diego’s was built on flavour and tradition — and nothing says that better than our incredibly tasty, fresh Piri-Piri chicken. A true tradition from Portugal, right here in the heart of Southampton. Our chicken is marinated for 24 hours in our own secret recipe, then grilled to perfection over charcoal in our open fire pit — just like the old ways back home. The result? That unmistakable smoky, juicy flavour that defines what real, fresh Piri-Piri chicken is all about.
By 2013, Diego’s found a new home in Bedford Place — bigger, busier, and full of life. The same soul, just a louder heartbeat. From sizzling grills downstairs to the rooftop terrace where cocktails meet sunsets, Diego’s became a place to celebrate, to unwind, and to feel at home.
Today, Diego’s stands as a true Southampton original. Still family-run, still cooking with passion, and still bringing people together through great food. Whether you’re dining in, grabbing a takeaway, or ordering to your door through our own delivery service or partners like Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat, or Hungry Panda, one thing never changes — the flavour, the fire, and the feeling that started it all.
